Please note: if you try to apply after the priority deadline, you must check with your prospective department to find out whether they are still accepting applications. This includes regional campuses.    

Departmental Information

Admission to Washington State University Graduate School
is a joint decision between the Dean of the Graduate School
and your prospective department or college.

Many departments require additional materials or have
earlier deadlines, so we recommend you contact them early
in the process. Also, if you miss the priority deadline, you
must contact the department to see if they are still accepting applications.

Admission Requirements

Acceptance by the department or program in which prospective students seek a degree or graduate study.

The Dean of the Graduate School grants final approval of admission, assuming general admission requirements have been met, and when evidence indicates a high probability of success in the prospective degree program.

Please note: Applicants may not be considered regardless of the previous institution's credentials if their application is deemed inadequate, incomplete, or insufficient.

Letters of Recommendation 

Once you submit your application, your references will be contacted automatically through the online application system and asked to submit electronically a recommendation form.

Since their recommendations will come directly to the Graduate School once they have submitted the electronic version, there is no need for a paper recommendation.

Please contact these references to be sure they are willing to respond to your request for a recommendation and ask them to discuss your leadership, academic standards, and skills as they pertain to your primary interest area.

Transcripts

For admission to the Graduate School at Washington State University we require official transcripts from each of the following:

Citizens or permanent residents of the United States:

a. Names of colleges or universities from which a degree has been granted or is expected and those transcripts showing the last 60 graded semester or 90 graded quarter hours of undergraduate work.

b. Any college or university showing graded coursework taken after the bachelor's degree.

c. Transcripts are not required for work completed at WSU.

Transcripts must be sent directly to the Dean of the Graduate School from the registrar of the institution where work was done.

Transcripts that are not sent directly from the registrar to the Graduate School are not acceptable.

International applicants:

a. Official transcripts, mark sheets, grade reports, or examination results from all higher education institutions attended; certified English translation with academic credentials if they are not written in English.

b. Official certified copies of degree certificates and its official English translation if they are not written in English.

Please note: Students intending to request transfer credit for their program of study need to submit official transcripts from colleges and universities showing such credit.
