Degree Requirements All students earning the M.A. in philosophy will be required to complete 30 credit hours, including twelve hours of core courses, twelve hours of elective courses, and six hours of master’s thesis research. Up to six hours of coursework may be completed at the 400 level. Program Description The cooperative M.A. program in philosophy, offered by Washington State University in Pullman, Washington, and the University of Idaho in Moscow, Idaho, leads to a general master of arts degree in philosophy. Students also have the option of concentrating in environmental philosophy or ethics. Students work with faculty members from both departments and thus are able to take advantage of a strong overall program with a wide variety of faculty research specializations. The two universities are just eight miles apart, and free public transportation between them is available. The program offers course work in the major areas of philosophy such as ethics, metaphysics, epistemology, philosophy of religion, philosophy of language, and history of philosophy, as well as in more newly developed areas such as environmental philosophy, feminist philosophy, and applied ethics.
