Professional Development
Grant Award for Fall 2008
The Graduate School and Graduate and Professional Student Association are pleased to announce the Professional Development Grant Program awards for Fall 2008. A proposal evaluation committee comprised of graduate students, faculty and administrators evaluated nine proposals to assure they followed the program mission and guidelines, including necessity, the potential impact on graduate students, interdisciplinary elements, and feasibility.
Winner of Fall 2008 Award
The Resume Building and Interviewing workshop proposal was awarded $3,000 for Fall 2008. The MBA Society Club at WSU Vancouver will coordinate this professional development activity to provide graduate students with current and relevant resume writing and interviewing skills. The Society for Human Resource Management asserts that recruitment and interviewing practices have changed to meet the needs of businesses in today’s job market.
Workshop
The all-day professional development experience funded by this award will provide participants with resume consultation, mock interviews, and interview-coaching by a professional HR consultant. Anticipated outcomes for participants include a well-organized resume and improved interview and interpersonal skills. The workshop will be open, at no cost, to all graduate and professional students on the Vancouver campus on a first-come, first-served basis.
WSU Vancouver MBA graduate students Phong T. Do and Michael Larman will each receive a $100 award for their submission and work on the program. The MBA Society Club advisor is Professor Greg Rose.
Honorable Mention
Proposals that deserve honorable mention included workshops for facilitating conflict in organizational communication, enhancing professional and personal management skills, and career development from first-hand lessons. The committee recommended that these proposals be resubmitted for consideration in Spring 2009.
All graduate students are encouraged to submit proposals for Spring 2009. The deadline is 5:00 pm, October 1, 2008.
