Summer Doctoral Fellows Program

Invitation

WSU invites applications and nominations from doctoral candidates nearing completion of their graduate degrees at other institutions nationally, and preparing for careers in higher education.

Program participants receive a $3000 stipend and housing. Applications are considered in the Colleges of:  Agricultural, Human, and Natural Resources Sciences; Business; Education; Engineering and Architecture; Liberal Arts; Nursing; Pharmacy; Sciences; and Veterinary Medicine.

Purpose

This program provides select doctoral students with the opportunity to work closely with faculty mentors at WSU
in preparing for academic careers as future faculty members. During the program, fellows

History

In 1993, WSU's College of Education established the Summer Teaching/Research Fellows Program.

Its original intent was "to underscore the importance of mentoring minority doctoral candidates for future careers in teaching, research, and service at the university level."

In 1998, the program expanded to include additional colleges, and currently coordinates centrally with support from the Graduate School and the Provost's Office.

Eligibility

 
professor steve burkett   The Summer Doctoral Fellows program is designed primarily for U.S. citizens from diverse backgrounds (or international students who plan to remain in the U.S.) All degree requirements other than the dissertation (ABD) should be completed by June 1.

Application

There are no application forms. Interested candidates should submit two copies of the following:

Three letters of recommendation, each in a sealed envelope with the recommender's signature written
across the seal. Letters may be mailed directly from the recommender or included in the application packet.

Applications must be postmarked by March 15, and candidates will be notified in April.
