Gendering Research Across the Campuses (GRACe)

The GRACe Graduate Scholar Award is an initiative of GRACe and the Graduate School to establish a recruiting incentive for an outstanding applicant to a WSU Ph.D. graduate program whose research centers on gender. Candidates whose work addresses the intersection of gender with other vectors of social inequality will also be considered. Web site.

The successful applicant will receive $3,000 for two years, $2,000 from the Graduate School and $1,000 from the relevant College or unit.

The GRACe Graduate Scholar will be asked to present their work to GRACe at a colloquium, or our Gender Symposium, at least once in the two years of the award, as well as participate regularly in GRACe activities.

Application Process:

Feb 15th

Graduate programs submit a prioritized list of candidate files to The GRACe Graduate Scholar (GGS) Committee (via Noël Sturgeon, Chair, Women’s Studies, Wilson 10)

Feb 21st

The GGS Committee creates a priority list from all the qualified submissions. It reports its choice of a top candidate to the relevant unit, and informs the other units of the decision.

April 14th

The successful applicant must commit to the graduate program and accept the offer; if not, GGS committee moves on to the next person on the list and offers the award to that candidate. The follow-up candidate will have two weeks to accept the award and commit to the graduate program. This process will continue until a successful candidate commits to the graduate program.

Materials submitted by graduate program to the GGS Committee:

  • Candidate files
  • Prioritized list
  • Commitment to the $1,000 supplement for two years from College or unit
  • Any rationale for your choice, if desired
